The Embassy of Cameroon in Switzerland obtained on July 11, 2023, the restitution of two monolithic objects called "Akwanshi", adorned with an anthropomorphic representation. The items had been confiscated as part of criminal proceedings in the canton of Geneva.

The Consul of the Republic of Cameroon in Calabar, Federal Republic of Nigeria, Mr. Patrice ONANA, and his close collaborators, on Monday November 21, 2022, launched the 5th phase of the distribution of special assistance of the Head of State, H.E. PAUL BIYA, to 850 Cameroonian refugees in Nigeria.
This 2022 edition which is the 5th phase since the exercise began in 2019 concerns refugees who had previously registered at the consulate from 07th to 15th November 2022. It is expected to end on Thursday 25th November 2022.
At the end of the current phase, a total of 6,825 Cameroonian refugees will have received special humanitarian assistance from the Head of State since April 2019.
The Head of State's special humanitarian assistance distribution campaign is an ideal opportunity for the consular officials of Calabar, on the one hand, to sensitize our fellow refugees on the efforts of the Government of the Republic in favor of peace and security in the North-West and South-West regions, and on the other hand, to invite the latter to return voluntarily to Cameroon to go about their past occupations, given the improvement of the situation in several localities, pending the possible signing of a Cameroon-Nigeria-UNHCR Tripartite Agreement, for a massive return.

PRESS RELEASE

************

The Minister of External Relations hereby informs national and international public opinion that, following the crisis in Eastern, the Government of Cameroon has been, and remains very sensitive to the situation of our fellow compatriots living within this area.

As a matter of fact, in the early hours of the crisis, the Head of State, as is his wont,gave instructions for Government to diligently take the urgent and necessary steps aimed at providing consular assistance and catering for all our compatriots in distress due to the crisis.

In this regard, the following actions have already been taken:

1. The Ministry of Finance was instructed to ensure the disbursement and prompt transfer of funds to the Embassy of Cameroon in Berlin (our Diplomatic Mission able to access easily the Ukrainian borders) with the goal of providing the needed care for Cameroonians in distress;

2. For the purpose of this cause, the Ministry of External Relations set up a Watch Unit, which is following up developments on a daily basis;

3. The Embassy of Cameroon in Moscow, which is territorially competent, and as is customary practice under such circumstances, did mobilise, as early as 26 February 2022, leading Associations bringing together Cameroonians in Eastern Europe. The Embassy then organised a video conference to school them on security measures to observe;

4. On account of difficulties on the ground due notably to the prevalence of hostilities on the Eastern Ukrainian front, still closed till date, almost all our Diplomatic Missions in Europe, especially those of Berlin, Brussels, Paris and Rome have all been working tirelessly to provide the necessary assistance to Cameroonians in distress;

5. Similarly, our diplomatic missions in Berlin and Moscow, set up Crisis Units, with the following contact details: +4915210621925 (Mobile + WhatsApp) and +79262033360. So, Cameroonians still trapped in Ukraine are hereby strongly encouraged to use either contact details;

6. On 5 March 2022, teams of Cameroonian Diplomats were dispatched to the borders between Ukraine and Poland, Moldaviaand Serbia. These teams are working hands-in-glove with International Organisations on the ground, IOM, ICRC, UNHCR and ICDO, on the one hand, and Presidents of Associations of Cameroonians mobilised to this effect, on the other hand;

          These actions are eloquent testimony of the fact that, contrary to what some ill-intentioned media outlets have broadcast on the supposedly “inaction” of the Government, the Head of State has, in this connection, as in the past, spared no effort in taking necessary steps for the safe return, with all expenses borne by the State, of 2665 Cameroonians stranded abroad in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and for the return of those of our compatriots living in distress as a result of prevailing crises in some countries worldwide.

Furthermore, the Ministry totally disapproves of any and all misleading and baseless information, disseminated across social platforms and/or broadcast by certain media outlets, with the objective of undermining the relentless and constructive efforts of the Head of State towards Cameroonians abroad and, in so doing, tarnishing the brand image of Cameroon.

Under the Very Esteemed Stewardship of the Head of State, Head of Cameroon Diplomacy, the Ministry of External Relations remains actively mobilised to provide appropriate solutions to the challenges facing our fellow compatriots in Ukraine./-
