Convened by its current Chairperson, H.E. Uhuru kenyatta, the 984th meeting of Heads of State and Government of the 15 Member Countries of the African Union Peace and Security Council (PSC) held virtually, on 09 March 2021 from 10:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. The Minister of External Relations, H.E. Mbella Mbella, represented the President of the Republic, H.E. Paul Biya, at the meeting.
The Head of the Cameroonian Delegation stated Cameroon's position with regard to two issues on the agenda:
- Sustainable peace in Africa: Climate change and its effects on peace and security on the continent;
- Follow up on the implementation of paragraph 15 of the decision on Silencing the Guns of the 14th Extraordinary summit (and the decision on Western Sahara).
This AU Institution which has been functional since 2004 comprises 15 countries including Cameroon. Its mandate spans conflict prevention, management and resolution.
Cameroon will assume the presidency of the PSC in August 2021 and February 2022.
