The Minister of External Relations, His Excellency (H.E.) Mbella Mbella, in accordance with the decision by the Heads of State of the Republic of Cameroon and the Republic of Congo, led an important Cameroonian delegation to the Republic of Congo for the inauguration of the new Cameroonian consulate in the region of Ouesso.
H.E. MBELLA MBELLA was accompanied by the Minister of Territiorial Administration, Mr Paul ATANGA NJI , the Ambassador of Cameroon in Congo, representatives of the Ministries of Trade, Higher Education, Economy, Planning and Regional Development, the Governors of the East and South Regions, the Senior Divisional Officers of Dja and Lobo and Boumba and Ngoko, the Mayor of Sangmelima and collaborators of the Minister of External Relations.
The Delegation arrived at the International Airport of Ouesso on 31 October 2018 at 11.46 AM. They were received by the Senior Divisional Officer of Sangha, Mr Jean Christophe Tchicaya who together with the authorities of his administrative constituency, hosted a reception in his official residence to welcome the Delegation.
Upon completion of this phase of the programme, the Delegation met with the Cameroonian community in Ouesso, in the building next to the Consular Chancery of Cameroon in the Mindongo District. The Ambassador of Cameroon in Congo, H.E. Komidor NJIMOLUH welcomed the Delegation and commended the impressive turnout of the Cameroonian Dispora in Ouesso for this important meeting.
During the ensuing exchange, the diaspora cordially appreciated the message of H.E. MBELLA MBELLA, situating the opening of the Consulate within the dynamics of the excellent relations between Cameroon and Congo as well as the desire of the Head of State, H.E. Paul Biya, to bring the administration closer to Cameroonian citizens wherever they are.
Taking the floor, the Minister of Territorial Administration presented a report of the 7 October 2018 Presidential elections which will culminate in the Oath-Taking Ceremony of the President-elect, His Excellency Paul Biya. The head of the Cameroonian community in Ouesso handed over the contribution of the diaspora to the Humanitarian Action Plan for the populations of the North West and South West Regions. CPDM party members in Ouesso availed themselves of this opportunity to sing songs of congratulations to President Paul Biya for his brilliant reelection as Head of State.
The inauguration of the Consular Chancery of Cameroon in Ouesso was marked by the symbolic cutting of the ribbon by H.E. Mbella Mbella and his Congolese counterpart, H.E. Jean Claude GAKOSSO, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Congolese Abroad, in the presence of the Cameroonian Minister of Territorial Administration, Mr Paul Atanga Nji, the Director of Cabinet of the Congolese Minister of the Interior and, the frontier authorities of Cameroon and Congo.
After the inauguration ceremony, the Delegation moved to the Red Square for the solemn celebration of the Cameroon-Congo friendship, in the course of which the Administrative authorities of the District hailed the strong friendship between the two States and affirmed, with respect to this friendship, that the new Consul of Cameroon in Ouesso, Mr BOATI Isaac Blaise can count on their full collaboration.
H.E. MBELLA MBELLA in his keynote address, thanked the President of the Republic of Congo, H.E. Denis SASSOU NGUESSO for his prompt response to the request for the creation of the Consulate of Cameroon in Ouesso.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Congolese Abroad, H.E. Jean Claude GAKOSSO, hailed the opening of the Cameroonian Consulate in Cameroon as a historical event which consecrates the strengthening and development of friendly and fraternal relations which have always existed between the Congolese and Cameroonian people.
Early in the evening, after thanking the administrative authorities of Ouesso and the Cameroonian and Congolese populations, the Delegation flew to Oyo in the Cuvette Department.
On 01 November, the President of the Republic of Congo, H.E. Denis SASSOU NGUESSO granted an audience to H.E. Mbella Mbella who was accompanied by Mr Paul Atanga Nji and the rest of the Delegation.
During this audience, H.E. Denis SASSOU NGUESSO extended hearty congratulations to his friend and brother, H.E. Paul BIYA, for his brilliant reelection as President of the Republic of Cameroon.
On this note, the opening of the Consulate of Cameroon in Ouesso, as underlined by H.E. Jean Claude GAKOSSO, stands as a historical feat by Presidents Paul BIYA and Denis SASSOU NGUESSO and the brotherly nations of Cameroon and Congo.
The Cameroonian Delegation left Congo and arrived at the Yaounde Nsimalen International Aiport on the same day at 4.40 PM local time.
The Minister of External Relations, H.E. Mbella Mbella, granted an audience to Ms. Allegra Maria Del Pillar Baiocchi, Resident Coordinator of the UN System in Cameroon. Ms. Allegra was accompanied by Dr Seydou Boubacar, Head of Mission and Resident Representative of the International Migration Organisation (IMO) in Cameroon. The audience took place in the presence of the Director of Communication, Documentation and Diplomatic Archives, the Director Ad Interim of African Affairs, the Sub-Directors in charge of the IMO and the UN as well as the Minister’s Attachés.
In the course of the discussions, the two Resident Representatives appreciated the dynamic cooperation which exists between Cameroon and the UN. They raised issues of mutual interest, notably preparations for the upcoming Marrakech Summit on the Global Compact for Migration, which is scheduled to hold from 11 to 12 December 2018 in Morocco. They examined ways and means to ensure the optimum participation of Cameroon in this conference. They also discussed other issues revolving around Headquarter Agreements and the privileges and immunities of the UN.
During this meeting, the Resident Coordinator of the UN system in Cameroon expressed delight over the announcement that the 78 students who were abducted on Sunday 5 November from the Presbyterian Secondary School in Bamenda, in the North West Region had been released.
The Minister of External Relations, H.E. MBELLA MBELLA, granted an audience to the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Spain to Cameroon on 09 November 2018. The audience took place in the presence of the Secretary General of the Ministry of External Relations, Mr Achille BASSELEKIN III, the Director of European Affairs, the Director of Communication, Documentation and Diplomatic Archives, Sub-Directors and Cabinet officers.
During this encounter, the two officials praised for the smooth running of the recent Presidential Election in Cameroon, which wound up with the brilliant re-election of President Paul Biya by the Cameroonian people for another seven-year term. The Minister of External Relations availed himself of this occasion to request that the Spanish diplomat convey to the King of Spain, His Majesty Felipe VI, the earnest gratitude of the Government of Cameroon for his warm message to the President of the Republic of Cameroon, following his re-election.
This audience was also an occasion to examine the rich and diversified cooperation between Spain and Cameroon, as well as the ways and means through which it can be strengthened especially in the fields of economy of the sea, tourism, agriculture, infrastructures, support to women and youth, cultural exchanges, sports and education. The Minister of External Relations reiterated to the Spanish Ambassador the will of Cameroon’s President to further and deepen cooperation between Cameroon and Spain. His Excellency RAMON MORENO GONZALES reaffirmed the attachment of the Kingdom of Spain to unity in Cameroon, while taking note of the commitment shared by his Esteemed Authorities.
The audience ended on a perfectly cordial note.
On Monday 12 November 2018, the Minister of External Relations, His Excellency Mbella Mbella and the Minister of Environment, Nature Protection and Sustainable Development, Mr Helle Pierre, defended the Bill authorising the President of the Republic to ratify the 10 October 2013 Minamata Convention on Mercury before the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Assembly.
H.E. Mbella Mbella together with colleagues, in the presence of Minister Jules Doret Ndongo, representative of the Vice Prime Minister, Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Relations with Parliaments and Mr Nana Aboubakar Djalloh, Minister Delegate to the Minister of Environment, Nature Protection and Sustainable Development, provided important answers to the questions posed by the Honourable Members of the Committee.
In the course of the session, the Honourable Cécile Epondo Fouda congratulated the Minister of External Relations for the measures taken to ensure the prompt return of Cameroonian citizens in distress in Kuwait and the protection of Cameroonians abroad as well as the quality of the Ministry’s website. The President of the Foreign Affairs Committee also congratulated the Minister on behalf of the members of the Committee and strongly encouraged him.
On 09 November 2018, the Minister of External Relations, H.E. MBELLA MBELLA, granted an audience in his Cabinet, from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., to H.E. WANG YINGWU, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to Cameroon. The audience took place in the presence of the Director of Asian Affairs and Relations with the Organization of the Islamic Conference, the Director of Communication, Documentation and Diplomatic Archives, Sub-Directors and Cabinet officers.
with whom he examined the state of cooperation between Cameroon and China, on the heels of the inaugural ceremony of the President of the Republic, H.E. Paul Biya. On this occasion, the Chinese diplomat conveyed to the Minister of External Relations, the verbal message from the State Advisor and Minister of Foreign Affairs of China, H.E. WANG YI.
Pursuant to this sign of friendship, the Minister of External Relations requested that the Chinese Ambassador convey his profound gratitude to his Homologue as well as that of the Cameroon Government to the President of the People’s Republic of China, H.E. XI JINPING, for the prompt congratulatory message he kindly addressed to the President of the Republic of Cameroon, H.E. Paul Biya, following his brilliant re-election. H.E. MBELLA MBELLA further thanked the Chinese Government for the multiform support provided to the Cameroon Government.
During this audience, the two officials reviewed files and projects being implemented by China in Cameroon, especially in the fields of security, infrastructures and health. They observed that cooperation between our two countries is running smoothly and committed to further build our ties in the forthcoming days.
