Dr Cécile NDJEBET, a Cameroonian environmental activist and social forester, was awarded the 17th Kew International Medal, during a ceremony which took place on 19 March 2025, at the Royal Society of London. The High Commissioner for Cameroon in London, H.E. Albert NJOTEH FOTABONG was represented to this event by a delegation of four officials from the Mission, led by the Minister Counsellor, Mrs Pauline HIEH.

First established in 1992 by the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew (RBG Kew), the prestigious Kew International Medal is given annually to outstanding individuals for their globally recognised work, which significantly adds to the knowledge, understanding and conservation of the world’s plants and fungi.

Dr NDJEBET was selected for her long career dedication in campaigning for the involvement of women in forest management and their right to forested lands and resources. Her award greatly honoured and showcased Cameroon in the United Kingdom, with regard to the importance that the UK gives to the protection of the environment and the fight against climate change.
